The purpose of supervision is to maintain and develop the quality of psychotherapy, OD (organisational development) and counselling practice through the medium of a professional learning relationship. Practitioners engage with a supervisor individually or in groups/work teams, and:

  • reflect on how they are working and how they can develop. This is both specific in terms of client caseload, and general in terms of continuing professional development, work/life balance and accountability
  • get support and holding in doing work which is often complex, potentially isolating and challenging
  • explore how to attend to best ethical standards and to resolve problems

This happens in the context of an established collaborative learning partnership between supervisor and supervisee(s). Support and challenge are equally important in getting the best for practitioner and clients, and for getting to the heart of safe, satisfying and effective practice.
