I am a qualified Gestalt therapist, offer reductions to those on low income, have flexible working hours with availability in the day and evening and work in Edinburgh.

Sometimes to understand ourselves and our situations better, we need someone else to hear and understand us, to be alongside us on our journey and see the view above the wood from the trees.
I practise Gestalt therapy, which is a holistic therapy interested in the heart, mind, body and spirit, I aim to create a safe confidential and open space to explore all of who you are. I believe it is through this whole person that doors open into new worlds, new perspectives and with compassionate curiosity of our uniqueness we can bring more of ourselves into our lives. We are each an expert on our own lives but sometimes we need support to make sense of it, find our way back, forward or sideways; to be present to what is and what was.

In therapy we will explore whats going on for you and what has brought you to this particular place at this particular time. Often we have become stuck in our lives and repeat certain patterns that developed for a good reason but perhaps no longer serve us. Through the simple practise of compassionate enquiry in the therapeutic encounter you will develop deeper awareness and learn to connect your mind to your body and in the process use it as support. Often a fountain of feelings can unfold as awareness deepens and connections are made, yet often in the therapeutic relationship this fountain becomes a spring that can resource your growth and water unique innate creativity. In this way you will understand yourself and begin to experiment with other ways of doing or seeing things, and thus the create different possibilities in your life.

I am passionate about the healing power of relationship and know first hand how much it can restore our own natural capacity for living and loving. In my journey with Gestalt therapy, I have developed a greater understanding of who I am, why I am, and what I am, in a different way than I gathered in other avenues of self discovery. It has supported me to connect deeper to myself and others in my relationships and it is my aim, to bring this to my meetings with clients.

Training and Experience

I have worked as a Gestalt therapist in private practice for 3 years and previously worked within the voluntary sector for; Talk Matters and Wester Hailes Health Centre. I completed my studies in Gestalt Psychotherapy at Edinburgh Gestalt Institute 4 years ago and continue to work in a way that grew in my training there, working in a relational, embodied and creative way. I am currently working toward becoming a certified member of BACP and applying creative approaches to working with Gestalt in therapy.

Alongside my therapy practice I have a BA in Creative Arts and also work as a performer and musician and have studied dance, creative writing, voice, storytelling and visual art.  I have found that the body, voice, creative imagery and writing can be an important tool for grounding the process of self exploration into giving it wings, to fly.  At times these tools feed into my client work with a degree of experimentation and curiosity. I have practised Buddhist mediation for many years and found it also to be a resource for deepening awareness and compassion. I also love to spend time in nature and find it a tremendous support into being more grounded and embodied in the world.

I have also worked extensively in the health sector, working both in mental health and general health and social care and this has given me a wide scope for connecting with a very diverse range of people.

I am in regular supervision and ongoing training, for developing myself further as a therapist. I am fully insured, and am a member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and confidentiality, compassion and respect are essential to my way of working.
